WHICH LEVEL SHOULD I SIGN MY DAUGHTER UP FOR?

The Fall Softball program is designed for girls age 6–14 (see the “Softball LL Age for 2015” tab for more info).  The Fall program is designed to give the girls an opportunity to continue playing where they left off in the Spring.  There are a few differences between the Spring and Fall programs.  TWe are still playing in the Intertown League and may include teams from towns such as Avon, Burlington, Canton, Simsbury, Torrington, etc.  There is also the possibility that towns like Granby, etc. from further north may ask to play in the league.  There may also be a tournament held at the end of the regular Fall season.  While the main focus of FGFS is for all girls who participate, at all levels, to have a safe, fun and positive experience, the goal of the Fall program is to help the girls further learn and develop their softball skills and to help prepare them for next Spring.  Fall season games typically being the weekend after Labor Day and run to mid/late-October.  For the Fall of 2015, FGFS hopes to offer the following levels for registering your daughters:

Farm A/Minors AA:  This level is typically for girls who are currently LL Age 6-8 and who played Coach Pitch or Minors AA in the Spring of 2015.  Specifically, girls who played Coach Pitch last Spring and intend to advance to Minors AA next Spring, or girls who played Minors AA and plan on playing that level again, should sign up for this level.  Based on previous years' rules, below is some additional information regarding this level:
  • An 11" ball is used and girls pitch from 32'.  Players pitch to all batters until three (3) walks have been issued.  Beginning with the batter following the third walk, coaches will pitch.  With coach pitching, batters can strike out but cannot walk.
  • No stealing or advancing on passed balls or wild pitches.
  • Advance on overthrows allowed, however, no advance on overthrow from the catcher to the pitcher.
  • Only 9 players on the field.
  • Continuous batting order (all players bat).
  • An 11" ball is used and girls pitch from 35'.
  • A maximum of 5 runs per inning and games can end in a tie.
  • Games have a 90-minute drop dead limit.  If the game is not over, the score reverts to the last completed inning.
  • There will likely be one practice during the week (coach's discretion).

Level 1 (Minors AAA):  This level is typically for girls who are currently LL Age 8-10 and who played Minors AA or Minors AAA in the Spring of 2015.  Specifically, girls who played Minors AA last Spring and intend to advance to Minors AAA next Spring, or girls who played Minors AAA and plan on playing that level again, should sign up for this level.  From a rules perspective, this level picks up roughly where our Minors AAA program left off in the Spring.  If your daughter is unsure about playing Majors next Spring, and wants to hone her skills in preparation of trying out for our Majors program next year, this is the correct level for her.  If your daughter played in our Coach Pitch program last Spring, this level is not recommended for her.  The competition is typically a notch above our Spring Minors AAA program.  Based on previous years' rules, below is some additional information regarding this level:

  • With the exception of stealing home, from a rules perspective, this level picks up right where Minors program ended.
  • Coaches do NOT pitch regardless of number of walks, hit batters, etc.
  • In an attempt to develop pitchers, girls are limited to pitching 3 innings per game maximum.
  • An emphasis is placed on learning and executing bunts.
  • Only 9 players on the field.
  • Continuous batting order (all players bat).
  • An 11" ball is used and girls pitch from 35'.
  • A maximum of 5 runs per inning and games can end in a tie.
  • Called balls and strikes are enforced.
  • Games have a 2-hour drop dead limit.  If the game is not over, the score reverts to the last completed inning.
  • The competition is better.  You may encounter teams who have travel ball/tournament ball girls playing on them as most of their seasons do not start until next Spring.
  • Games are typically played every Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
  • There will likely be one practice during the week (coach’s discretion).
Level 2 (Majors):  this level is typically for girls who are currently LL Age 10-12.  It is the most competitive level of Little League softball and, from a rules perspective, is equivalent to our Majors program.  If your daughter is LL 10, played in our Majors program this past Spring, or if she played in our Minors AAA program and will be playing Majors next Spring, this is the correct level for her.  In addition, if your daughter is LL 11, played in our Majors program this past Spring, and will be returning to play Majors as a LL 12 next Spring, this is the correct level for her.  Based on previous years' rules, below is some additional information regarding this level:
  • Play all normal LL rules (this includes the infield fly rule and the dropped 3rd strike).
  • In an attempt to develop pitchers, girls are limited to pitching 3 innings per game maximum.
  • Only 9 players on the field.
  • Continuous batting order (all players bat).
  • A 12" ball is used and girls pitch from 40'.
  • A maximum of 5 runs per inning.
  • Games have a 2-hour drop dead limit.  If the game is not over, the score reverts to the last completed inning.  In the event of a double header, games are 1:20 minutes.  No inning can start after 1:20 minutes.  Games tied after time expires are recorded as ties.  Innings in progress will be completed.
  • The competition is better.  You may encounter teams who have travel ball/tournament ball girls playing on them as most of their seasons do not start until next Spring.
  • Games are typically played on Friday evenings and late Sunday afternoons.
  • There will likely be one practice during the week (coach’s discretion).
Level 3:  this level is for girls who are currently LL Age 13-14 and have "aged out" of our Spring program.  We have never successfully entered a team at this level but it is being listed here in case there is enough interest to make it happen.  Based on previous years' rules, below is some additional information regarding this level:
  • Play all normal LL rules (this includes the infield fly rule and the dropped 3rd strike).
  • Only 9 players on the field.
  • Continuous batting order (all players bat).
  • A 12" ball is used and girls pitch from 43'.
  • A maximum of 7 runs per inning.
  • Games are typically played on Friday and Sunday evenings.
  • There will likely be one practice during the week (coach’s discretion).
The number of teams at any of the above levels will depend on the number of girls who register.  It is possible that there will not be enough girls for a team at any given level.  Requests for specific team placement CANNOT be guaranteed.  Placement will be made as needed to provide balance and parity.  In addition, registration will be on a first come, first served basis.

* Please note that, at any level, if a manager or coach of a team identifies a potential safety risk, a girl may be asked to move down a level to better suit her abilities and to ensure her experience in FGFS is a safe and positive one.
